”OSCAR OF SUSTAINABLE FARMING IN BRAZIL” 3 FAPCEN-CERTIFIED RURAL PROPERTIES ARE FINALISTS

For the third consecutive year, Canal Rural will recognize sustainable practices in Brazilian agribusiness with the Planeta Campo Award. The award highlights positive socio-environmental and economic results, valuing the commitment and efforts in favor of sustainability in the field. FAPCEN once again takes the lead in directing its work to new global trends, conducting this work with the RTRS Certification. Three rural properties in the State of Maranhão are being nominated as finalists to compete for this honorable award. “FAPCEN and its mission in continuing to value the territories that produce food located in the northern export corridor.”

The farms, Carolina do Norte and Serra Vermelha, compete in the medium-sized category and Fazenda Nova Holanda, in the large-sized category.
The Planeta Campo Award is considered the “Oscar of Sustainable Farming in Brazil”. This year, more than 700 farms from Entries from all over the country were entered to compete for this award, showcasing a diversity of socio-environmental initiatives. The criteria for the award cover a wide range of topics, such as reducing the use of pesticides, improving water use efficiency, promoting biodiversity, valuing rural labor, and integrating agricultural production with other activities, such as tourism and ecotourism.

The FAPCEN’s work is aligned with the global initiatives of the United Nations (UN), through internal policies focused on ethics and business integrity. The winners will have a report about their farm shown on Canal Rural and will also receive a scholarship to study at ESALQ – Escola Superior de Agricultura da USP (São Paulo University), one of the most renowned in the country. The award ceremony will take place at a major event on October 30th, 2024, at the Jockey Club in São Paulo.
